     Pleasant Carr Priddy was listed on 25 June 1870 as the head of a family on the ninth census of the United States in Priceville, Hart County, Kentucky. Pleasant Carr Priddy began military service circa 1875 During the Civil War, Pleasant Carr Priddy, Private, served in Company "H", 27th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment, was shot through the jaw by a .58 caliber minnie ball that left a disfiguring scar on his face. He grew a beard that he wore the rest of his life to cover that wound.

     Ellen Jean Lidia Merriot Purcell was born on 26 August 1881 at Cabool, Texas County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Henry Scott Marriott and Mary Elizabeth Crossland. Ellen Jean Lidia Merriot Purcell married Murray Waldo Branstetter, son of Martin Alexander Branstetter and Anna Elizabeth Sykes, on 19 February 1902.1 Ellen Jean Lidia Merriot Purcell died on 16 June 1981 at Arcadia, Los Angeles County, California, at age 99; she was living with her daughter Gladys when she died.2 She was buried at Spring River Cemetery, Verona, Lawrence County, Missouri.2
     She and William M. Purcell were adopted in 1882.
