The funeral party left the home in Cuba at 1:30 o'clock and went to the Methodist Episcopal church at Smithfield, where the funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Robison Ashey, assited by the Rev. G. H. Bond. Pallbearers were: Alva gilmore, Lee Little, Roy Gilmore, Boyd Drummond, Blake Robinson, Harry Fate. Out of town relatives in attendance were: Miss. Irma Drummond, Ira gilmore, Silas Yocum, Peorio; Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Drummond, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fate, William Fate, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Irwin, Mr. and Mrs. Aschel Jenkins, Mrs. Wyatt Barker, Miss Hazel Irwin, Canton; Abner Yocum, Paul Yocum, Prairie City; Mrs. Lance Young and children, Avon; Jacob Carpenter, Bushnell. A profusion of floral offerins revealed the friendship fo the many who had known Mrs. Yocum during her lifetime.
     Obituary of Laura Irene Fate appeared on 17 July 1931 at Cuba Journal, Cuba, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: Mrs. Irene Yocum, wife of Henry Yocum, who has been at the point of death for several days, passed away Monday morning about 5:00 o'clock. She had been ill for several months and in poor health for a number of years. Laura Irene Fate was born Dec. 25, 1873, at Smithfiled, a daughter of George and Mary Fate. On July 3, 1892, she was united in marriage to Henry Yocum of Smithfield, who with four children, Mrs. Ethel Campbell, Doyle Yocum of Cuba, Archie and Clifford of Canton survive. There are nine grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, William Fate, of Canton, and one sister, Mrs. W. L. Robinson, of Smithfield. Mrs. Yocum had lived most of her like at Smithfield, but had been a resident of Cuba for ten years or more. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Smithfield and funeral services were held there Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock conducted by the Rev. Robinson Ashby of Lewistown. Burial was in the Howard cemetery, three mile southeast of Smithfield.

Miss Lena F. Fate, 76, lifetime resident of Bradford, died Thursday morning in Kewanee Public hospital after a long illness. She was born November 4, 1890, in Bradford, a daughter of Wilber and Anna Foster Fate. Surviving are one sister, Miss Grace Fate of Peoria, one niece and one nephew. One sister and two brothers preceded her in death. Miss Fate was a member of the Leet Memorial Methodist church in Bradford and was secretary of Morning Star Sunday school class there. She also was a member of crescent Rebekah Lodge, No. 199, of Bradford. Services were held Saturday in the Dunlap Funeral Home in Bradford. Rev. Edward Pinder officiated and burial was in Mound cemetery.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Peoria and the Priscilla Fellowship of United Methodist Women. Surviving is one niece, Marian Fate of Bradford and three great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunlap-McCann Funeral Home, Bradford, the Rev. Walter Teesdale officiating. Burial was in Mound Cemetery, Bradford. Visitation was one hour before services. Organist was Gary black. Casketbearers were Bob Scott, Ernest Linden, Orval Crooks, Jim Robison, Tom Robison and Lewis Surslier. Honorary bearers were Harold Hollar and Harold Scott. Memorials may be made to the Bradford Library.

     Martin Eugene Fate Sr. was born on 23 April 1903 at Bridgeport, Caddo County, Oklahoma Indian Territory.1 He was the son of Jessee Ernest Fate and Louie Pearl Lutes. Martin Eugene Fate Sr. married Frances Mae Harp, daughter of Grant Harp and Emily Mae Truman, on 5 August 1927 at Claremore, Rogers County, Oklahoma; Harp-Fate Wedding August 5 - Mrs. Emily Harp of 337 N. Columbia av. annouces the marriage of her daughter, Miss Frances Harp, to Mr. Eugene Fate, son of Mr. J.E. Fate of 1525 E Hodge ave., in Claremore on Wednesday, August 5. The wedding was celebrated in the parsonage of the South Methodist church by Rev. La Grome. The young couple was accompanied to Claremore by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Owen, who attended them at the service. Mr. and Mrs. Fate spent two weeks on a motor trip to Joplin and other points through Missouri and Kansas. They are at home to their friends at 337 N. Columbia av. He was married in Licking county, Ohio, to Eliza Nolen on November 30, 1848, who passed away Nobember 6, 1872. To this union were born nine chilren. They are John, who died in infancy, Mrs. M.J.      The funeral was held at the Fate home northwest of Red Oak Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock, Rev. F.N. Willis conducting the services. Mrs. Hinton of DesMoines was here to attend the funderal, but on account of sickness the other children living at a distance were unable to be present.
     Obituary of Martin James Fate appeared on 26 January 1917 at The Sun, Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa, as follows: Martin Fate, aged 93 years, died at the home of his son, Jesse N. Fate, near Red Oak, Thursday, Jan. 18, 1917, after having been in failing health for several years. Mr. Fate was born in Licking County, Ohio, June 20, 1823, and was married there Nov. 30, 1848, to Eliza Nolen, who passed away Nov. 6, 1872. To this union nine children were born, of whom two have died. The surviving children are as follows: Mrs. M. J. Lawson, Mrs. E. A. Mecum, Mrs. W. A. Hinton and R. F. Fate, all of Des Moines; Mrs. S. A. Tice of Red field; Mrs. M. L. Snyder of Pueblo, Col; J. N. Fate of Red Oak. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. At the age of 11 years Mr. Fate united with the Methodist church, of which he was a member until about 36 years ago when removing to a locality, in which there was no Methodist church he placed his membership with the United Brethren church. The funeral of Mr. Fate was held at the J. N. Fate home at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning, Jan. 20, Rev. F. N. Willis, D. D., of the Methodist church, conducting the services. Singing was by Mrs. F. J. Brodby and Misses Teas and Harris. The pallbearers were J. M. Fate, O. F. Fate, I. S. Bishop and W. R. Bishop. Mrs. W. A. Hinton, of Des Moines, was the only one of the children here from a distance, the others being unable to come on account of sickness in their respective families. Others here from a distance for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Bishop, R. G. Bishop and I. S. Bishop, all of Elliott. Mr. Fate was a good man and numerous friends are left to mourn his passing.

     Martin Luther Fate Sr. was born circa 1754 at Germany.1 He was the son of George Fait. Martin Luther Fate Sr. married Mary Botte circa 1777 at say Pennsylvania.2 Martin Luther Fate Sr. died in 1816 at Fairfield County, Ohio.
     He began military service between 1777 and 1781. Listed as "Martin Feet" he received Continential Line Depreciation Pay for service between 1777 and 1780. According to the Pennsylvania State Archives website, soldiers recieved Depreciation Pay if they remained in Line service in 1781. Depreciation Pay Certificates, which were both interest bearing and negotiable, were like bonds of the present day.3 He is listed as "Martin Feats" and a Private in the 1st Battalion, 6th Class of the Beford County Militia. between 1780 and 1783.4 He is listed as "Martin Feats" in the Tax List of Cumberland Valley Township, Bedford County (Note: Cumberland Valley Twp and Derry Twp where he is listed in the 1790 census are adjacent) in 1784.5 He is listed on Tax list for London Derry Township, Bedford County, PA, 15 acres in 1785.6 He is listed as "Martin Faite" and appears in the list of inhabitants of London Derry Township made subject to the Militia Laws of the state in January 1789.7

     Marvin Ray Fate was born on 25 April 1930 at California. He was the son of Raymond George Fate and Alma Belle Montgomery. Marvin Ray Fate died on 26 June 1986 at Medford, Jackson County, Oregon, at age 56.1 He was buried at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Jackson County, Oregon.
     He enlisted for World War II. Height: 88 inches, Weight: 186 on 3 May 1945 at San Pedro, Los Angeles County, California.

     Mary Fate was born circa 1788 at Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Martin Luther Fate Sr. and Mary Botte. Mary Fate married Leonard Strait on 3 April 1815 at Somerset, Perry County, Ohio.1,2,3 Mary Fate died before 1870 at Vernon County, Wisconsin.4
     She Mary must have been an unusually large woman who fell in love with a large man and married him which incident produced this rhyme:

Fate married Luther Michael Overton, son of Francis Luther Overton and Sarah VanDorn, on 2 June 1867 at Fulton County, Illinois.3,4 Mary E. Fate died on 15 April 1875 at Fulton County, Illinois, at age 26. She was buried on 15 April 1875 at Totten Cemetery, Smithfield, Fulton County, Illinois.5
